Why Our FSSAI Licence Is on Every Label, and How to Verify It

Every Chennamma Ajji label carries the number 1122632300006. That's our FSSAI licence number. We print it because anyone can claim their oil is pure, but not everyone gives you a way to check who made it. This article explains what the number is, why it matters, and how to check it yourself in about two minutes.

What an FSSAI licence is

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the government body that regulates food businesses in India. A company that makes or sells packaged food, including cooking oil, needs an FSSAI registration or licence, and its number has to appear on the pack. Each number is 14 digits long and is issued to one specific food business.

A licence number doesn't prove that a particular bottle is pure or tastes good. What it does prove is that a registered, traceable business is responsible for the product. If something goes wrong, you and the regulator know exactly whom to hold accountable.

Why we print ours on every label

Most people buying cold pressed oil have been let down before. Some "wood pressed" oil turns out to be refined oil in a nicer bottle, and some "pure" oil turns out to be a blend. We can't fix that for the whole market. We can make it easy to check us.

So the number is on every label, on our brand facts page and on our About page. We'd rather you verify it than take our word for it.

How to verify our licence on FoSCoS, step by step

FoSCoS is FSSAI's official online portal. It's free to use and you don't need an account.

Open foscos.fssai.gov.in in your browser. Check the address carefully, because several look-alike websites exist.
On the home page, choose FBO Search. FBO stands for Food Business Operator.
Enter the 14-digit number: 1122632300006.
Type in the captcha and press Submit.
Read the result. The portal shows details for the business behind that number, such as its name, address, the kind of licence and whether it's currently valid.

If a number returns nothing, belongs to a different company, or shows as expired, treat that as a warning sign, whatever the brand.

Use the same check on any brand

This check isn't just for us. Before you buy any cooking oil, especially online:

Find the number. It should be printed on the pack near the FSSAI logo. No number is a red flag.
Verify it on FoSCoS. Make sure the business name matches the brand or its stated manufacturer.
