Pooja Oils
Oil for the lamp, kept separate from the oil you cook with. Chennamma Ajji Deepam Oil (Deepada Enne) is made for diyas and pooja lamps — daily prayers, Friday lamps, and the long festival stretch of Deepavali, Karthika masa and Dasara. It burns with a steady, bright flame, with no added preservatives or fragrance.
Why a separate lamp oil
Plenty of Karnataka homes light the lamp with sesame oil (ellenne), and there is nothing wrong with that. Deepam oil exists so that a month of lamps does not burn through a bottle of cooking oil. It works the other way only: this is lamp oil, not food, and it is not sold as a cooking oil. For the kitchen, see our cold pressed cooking oils.
Sizes
500 ml, 1 L and 5 L. For one or two lamps a day, the 1 L is the sensible everyday size. For a full festival month, a large household or a temple, the 5 L works out at the lowest rate per litre.
Ordering for the 2026 festival season
Deepavali falls on 8 November 2026 and Karthika masa runs from 10 November to 8 December, so the lamps stay lit for weeks rather than days. Orders are packed in 2–3 business days; free delivery then takes 7–14 days, standard shipping is ₹49 (3–7 days) and express is ₹99 (1–3 days). All orders are prepaid, paid online at checkout. Frequently asked questions
Can I cook with deepam oil?
No. It is lamp oil and is not sold as food. For cooking, use one of our cold pressed cooking oils.
Can I burn cooking oil in the lamp instead?
Yes — sesame oil in particular is traditional in Karnataka homes. Deepam oil simply costs less to burn over a long festival month.
My lamp smokes and the flame will not settle. Why?
Usually the wick. A wick left too long, or mushroomed at the tip, will smoke — pinch or trim it back. Keep the oil topped up so the wick never burns dry, use cotton rather than synthetic thread, and set the lamp out of a draught.
When should I order for Deepavali and Karthika masa?
For free delivery, about three weeks ahead of the date you need it: 2–3 business days to pack, then 7–14 days in transit. Express (₹99, 1–3 days) is there if you have left it later.
